The news

We had been trying (one unsuccessful month) so I knew I would be taking a test at the end of this week. Kristin K had said don't test too early (she took about 4 negative tests before her's came back positive).

I did also break all the "rules" everyone told me:
  1. Don't use a double line test, it's hard to read. just use the "pregnant"/"not pregnant" test. (KK)
  2. When you plan to test get up early so you have some time to take it in. (LH)
  3. Don't test too early, wait a few days to get a true test. (KK).
So, I get up late before going to my writing cohort. I couldn't stop thinking about it the day before so I just decided to take the test...

3 minutes later...is that 2 lines or 1 line?!?!?!? Laura said if there is any hint of a 2nd line you are pregnant...could it be?!?! I showed Ryan and asked if he thought it was 2 lines. He thought so, but I still couldn't believe it.

Not getting up early enough we had to run out the door to our respective days. I called Laura on the way to the writing cohort and asked her. "You're pregnant!" she said! I called the doctor that morning and they could get me in at 2pm that day (the cohort ended at 3pm) or the next Tuesday. I was stressing out about having to leave early but asked Muriel and Kirsten and they said it would be fine. So I called the doctor back and took the 2pm appt. I turned around in the hall and who do I see but Sara and Colette! I was all in a flutter but tried to act normal. :)

Ryan and I met at the doctor's office. The first thing you do is pee into a cup so they can confirm your pregnancy - definitely pregnang!

After talking with Jennifer and Dr. Block they needed to take some blood tests. I told Ryan he could go if need be since the appt was going long but he stayed (thank goodness!). The nurse asked how I was with needles. "Not my favorite" I told her but I should be fine. (I mean I've never fainted before). She started taking blood and I started to feel faint...I looked at Ryan and tapped the chair arm signaling "I'm not doing so well..." Then I don't know what happened...

I awoke on the floor. My eyes flew open and I didn't know where I was. I was (apparently) super sweaty and at first thought I was inappropriately dressed or that I had wet myself. Then I heard the nurse saying "I've got her head. Let's get a pillow".

Apparently I had passed out! There's a first time for everything. I laid on the floor for a bit while Ryan held a juice box to my mouth to raise my blood sugar. Then I sat for a bit, eating Chex Mix and Scoobie Doo snacks.

I also remember Ryan asking if he could get something to clean the blood off my neck...I later found blood spots on my t-shirt. I thought I was pretty funny asking "this is the hardest part of having a kid...right?". The nurses just looked at me and smiled.
