We crammed the car full of diapers, books, bags, a stroller and Uncle Mitch and Kalin (not to mention the Swiderski family) and headed to the cabin for a long weekend before school started. Half way into the drive Gpa Mark called asking if we had read the email. What email? Oh, the email that said that, due to the crazy storms that passed through, we had no electricity. Well we weren't going to turn around so we kept going. Maybe it would be an adventure!
Thankfully we got to the cabin with plenty of daylight to get ourselves situated and start dinner. Ryan and Mitch handled the man jobs (grilling dinner) while Kalin and I did women things, like setting the table and searching the house for lanterns, candles, and the like. Remember all those little battery-operated lanterns from GGma Anderson (that we thought were cute but unnecessary)? It turns out they are totally necessary and helpful.
Gpa Mark, Gma Ellen and GGma Anderson joined us later that evening so we had a full house. The next morning we made the rounds to check out the damage. A little ways down the road there were trees blocking driveways, broken fences and even a power line across the road. Hence no electricity.
But who needs electricity! We're a rough, tough kind of crew. No stove? No problem, we have pudgies! (Though the aluminum ones melted when we heated them up...ooops).
Over the weekend we got electricity back (for a few hours), lost it again (for a few more hours), then finally got it back for good. Quite the adventure (especially for an 89-year old woman - though don't tell Kalin I told you her age).
Here are men, doing men things.
Claire supervised the prep table.
Mmmm...the first one always burns.
Heck, you don't need electricity for a booze cruise!
Awwww!!!
No electricity didn't bother GGma.
Claire likes to make sure the motor is running properly. Apparently this is also necessary as Gma and Gpa got stranded a few weekends ago on the wrong side of the lake.
Uncle Mitch...supervising?
Yes, Uncle Max is not in focus. What is in focus is the crazy storm headed our way.
Ha - Moe's face says it perfectly.
This pretty much sums up our summer cabin weekends.

High-5 to GGma.
Fist bump.
And a kiss!
Someone made GGma's day.
Happy Labor Day!
