Lyla's Entrance

I have learned that it is a bit more difficult to write blog posts when you have an infant AND a 3-yr old!  So, here is a recap of the past 5+ weeks.

This was the nursery just before Lyla was born.  We picked up a bit and added several art projects to the wall.  Don't hold your breath for an updated picture here :)

Having a scheduled C-section made it easy to have reinforcements come up at the right time!  The night before the big day, we had a big family dinner.  Claire even managed to get Papa Mark to play a game! Unheard of!

Family hug!!

Our last photo as a family of 3!

I'm pretty sure it was Claire said we should do silly faces, I think she just wanted to make us look foolish!

Naming Lyla
Everyone always asks, how did you come up with Lyla?  Well, it actually started with her middle name.  We knew we wanted to name her after Pop Pop Paige :)  After that, we had the hard task of deciding on a first name.  Like with Claire, we wanted a short name and one that didn't have a nickname (though I'm sure she'll get plenty of those as she grows!).  It came down to Nora or Lyla. I had a student Lyla this year and was always very impressed with her personality and sense of self.  The name is a little bit more unique and not too trendy. It only took us until about 2 weeks before she was born to decide for sure :)  There you go - Lyla Paige!

April 22nd, 2013 Lyla Paige's Birthday!
She was born at 7:17 am and weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

The C-section went much better than my first. I wasn't sick at all - yeah!

Before Lyla was born I was a bit apprehensive about having a newborn again, much less having 2 kids.  I have to admit, I wasn't looking forward to the sore feeding sessions, feeding every 2 hours, waking up every 2 hours, diapers....you get the idea.  It was pretty amazing though, as soon as she was born - and I heard her cry - I thought "yup, no problem, we can do this!".

Ryan and I got to be in the recovery room together with Lyla - and I was awake (and not puking) this time!  They gave her a bath and we snuggled and enjoyed the moments :)

Lyla looks a lot like her sister did when she was born - full head of dark hair, button nose and small "indent" in her chin.

The nurses knit hats for the babies now. We picked out this yellow one :)

Side note - I was really into the popsicles (which you had to order from the cafeteria, because our floor was always out!!)

First Visitors
Of course, Nonnie and Papa were there right away!  It helps that they were staying only about 10 minutes away :)  We decided to not have Claire come to meet her sister the first day. I was worried that I would still be sick I really wanted to be coherent for this moment.   So, Nonnie and Papa took Claire to Jen's (daycare) and came to the hospital to meet the newest addition.

This picture is perfect - Nonnie says "out of my way, that's my granddaughter" and Papa sits back to take it all in :)

Uncle Mitchy and Kalin left work early to come meet their new niece :)  Fun fact: Kalin is WAY more comfortable with babies than she was when she met Claire!

If you've seen the video Ryan posted, you know Claire was extremely hesitant when she came into the room.  She wouldn't even come over to see me!  She just kind of hung back and took everything in.

After several requests, she finally did come over to my bed and we brought over he new sister.  Again, it took a few minutes, but once she warmed up, she wouldn't let her little sis go!

Hesitant...

And love! (BTW - this is one of my FAVORITE pics).

Precious.

Checking out her little fingers.

In these pics you can see the quilt Nonnie made for Lyla.

This is a hug :)

Visitors
We weren't quite as good this time about getting photos of everyone that stopped by, but here are a few!

Lyla was a sucking machine from the get-go.  Since Claire never used a nook or her thumb, we were hesitant to start Lyla on anything (because we know at some point you need to break them of that!).  But after nursing her for 2.5 hrs on day two, we went ahead and used fingers, then a nook!

This is Pauline (my intern this year), Colette and Sara Janousek (colleague).

Calm moments with daddy.

Time to go home!
