"Rolf" and other festivities

Our Christmas season was filled with lots of traditions and new activities shared with Claire.  It was heart-warming to see Christmas through her eyes.

Decorations
We started the season by piling as many Christmas decorations in our living room as possible.  Really, you can't fit any more Christmas into that part of our house - I'd like to see you try!  As I said, it was amazing to see Christmas from Claire's perspective.  For a full half hour, she responded to every single item we pulled out by exclaiming "WOAH!" It was adorable how excited she was.

She helped us put ornaments on the tree (this year they are a bit clustered at about 1.5 ft off the ground).  She also helped us with stockings, though apparently she thought they were socks.

Each December morning we made our way downstairs for breakfast.  Each December morning, at the bottom of the stairs, Claire would exclaim "mismis!".  This was our cue to turn on the Christmas tree lights, the Christmas village houses and the garland in the kitchen.  We would tell her to count to three; side note, she doesn't like to say the number 1, so she would say "chew, fee!!", then we'd switch on the lights.  We would do each one at a time, which was quickly followed by "more!"  Also, quite adorable.

Learning About Santa
In early December, we thought it would be a good idea to get Claire a few Santa books, so she at least knew who he was.  Silly us, it doesn't take very long for a kid to fall in love with the idea of Santa.  You can ask Claire the following questions (I'll fill in her responses for you).

What does Santa say?  Ho, ho (notice only twice, we'll work on three times next year).
What does Santa eat?  Tootiesmilk (this translates to: cookies and milk)
What does Santa bring?  pesants!

We opted out of actually visiting Santa this year, saving that long line adventure for next year.

The Holidazzle Parade
Since Claire was so in love with Christmas lights, we decided to take her (along with Uncle Mitch and Kaline) to the Holidazzle parade downtown Minneapolis.  I foolishly thought that we could eat downtown before the parade. wrong.  Even at 5:00pm all restaurants had over an hour wait.  We ended up at in a long line at Panara and felt lucky when we got one of the few tables in the restaurant.  Next year we'll eat sandwiches at home and then head downtown for the parade.

We all had a blast eating salty popcorn and watching the lights go by.

Rolf the Red-Nose Reindeer
If Claire isn't running somewhere, she's singing.  We sign songs when we change diapers, before we eat, in the car and when we are trying to distract her.  When we asked Claire what song she wanted to sing, she often told us "Rolf!".
