Home sweet home

Mom, Dad, and Claire got the go ahead to head home on Monday from the OB and the Pediatrician, so Monday was our last day in the hospital. Mom's moving around with grace again, but is still limited in what she's allowed to do until things heal up more, so dad took no less than 4 trips out to the car to repack all of the things we brought.

The last trip out to the car was just mom, dad, and Claire in the car seat (and Jim, the hospital volunteer). We were both expecting some sort of fanfare as we left the building (like a small 4-piece brass band, maybe a humble fireworks extravaganza), but it was very anti-climactic... just Jim saying "Good luck!". Dad drove the safest he has since his first trip with the Droid, so everyone got home safely. Claire was in dreamland the whole way!

Our first day/night at home was everything we expected it to be: Claire determining when we get to eat, sleep, and watch DVR'd The Office and Parks and Rec episodes. For those of you keeping score at home, here was the schedule over the last 30hrs:

1:30pm Monday- Swiderskis arrive home.
3:00 - 3:30: Claire eats lunch #3, poops
3:30 - 3:51: Dad rocks Claire and foolishly assumes she's ready to sleep.
3:51 - 4:00: Claire eats lunch #3 dessert
4:00 - 5:50: Mom, Dad, and Claire take one of the best naps of all time
5:51 - 6:15: Claire eats dinner #1, poops. Dad watches first half of last Thursday's Parks and Recreation (who casted John Larroquette?)
6:15 - 7:30: Claire sleeps, Dad goes to grocery store
7:30 - 7:40: Claire eats dinner #1 dessert
7:40 - 8:53: Mom and dad eat dinner (spaghetti!!), watch the rest of Parks and Rec, some Olympics
8:53 - 9:30: Claire eats dinner #2, poops
9:30 - 9:51: Dad rocks Claire and foolishly assumes she's ready to sleep.

3:50 - 4:20: Claire eats lunch #3, poops
4:20 - ???: Mom and Claire sleep, dad writes blog

We're looking forward to our first wellness check up tomorrow at our pediatrician (All About Children). We've been keeping a list of all the questions to ask... I feel we'll be the annoying parents who are constantly calling the doctor about every little thing, but what the heck else are you supposed to do? Every symptom is either completely normal or the early signs of ______ disease/syndrome/etc. Whatever, we'll get through it.

Mitch and Kalin are coming over on Thursday to cook us dinner... THANK YOU! We're looking forward to it.

Oh, in case you were wondering, while writing this blog, Claire woke up:
4:20: - 5:30: Mom and Claire sleep, dad starts writing blog
5:30 - ???: Claire eats dinner #1, poops, dad finishes blog

Here are some more pictures from the last couple days...

  1. She sounds like a chip off the ol' block. Eating sleeping. Or is it drinking and sleeping?
I love the pictures of her with the quilt - especially being able to make out her name. We'll need to take a grandma/Claire picture so I can make a proper label - just in case she needs to remember who actually made the quilt for her. I put all the pics in my grandma brag book and showed all my classes. The boys especailly were ogling. Is this a precurser of things to come for Claire??? Good luck, Dad.

  2. I love reading all about your new life! Thanks for sharing everything. Ryan, I think you write just like Mark :) (That's a compliment!) Glad things are going well...and glad you're getting SOME sleep. Those two- and three-hour stretches are impressive. Thanks for doing this blog thing. Love to all three of you!
