1st Bottle

Saturday night we tried our first bottle!!  Uncle Andrew was here to capture the big moment.
We had read up on what the best way to introduce a bottle is.  The books say that she might not take the bottle best from mom so someone else should feed her.  In addition, mom shouldn't even be in the room because the baby can smell the breast milk!

So Ryan and Andrew were downstairs and I headed upstairs as not to distract her.  I also had no idea how much she had been eating which made it hard to know how much to give her.  The doc said 3/4oz-1oz for each hour she has been sleeping.  Well that seemed like a crazy large amount so I (geniously) decided not to give her that much because I didn't want her to eat it too fast and then spit it up.  Dumb idea.  After about 30 seconds upstarirs Ryan said it was fine for me to come back down.  She had eaten the entire bottle, no problem!  Well, thank you very much.  So much for the mother-daughter bonding during feeding!

Claire fell asleep after the bottle so we let her sleep.  But that started a night of short naps as opposed to the 4-5 hour stretches she had been doing.  Good work mom.  We're back on track now with sleep (well not counting last night) which is very much apprecaited!

Now I have to figure out how to feed her and pump (to start storing up reserves) without being attached to a baby or a pump all day long!  Also, one of our nurses at the hospital mentioned how her friends feel like their pumps "talk" to them.  It's true.  Mine says either "never pee never pee never pee", "never leave never leave never leave" or "feed me feed me feed me" depending on the day...
